Arsenal insert January recall clause in Nwaneri's Borussia Dortmund loan deal
Premier League champions Arsenal have reportedly included a recall clause in the loan deal that saw Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Ethan Nwaneri move to Borussia Dortmund in the current summer window.
Nwaneri completed his move to the Bundesliga club before the close of the transfer window following the injury to Greek midfielder Giannis Konstantelias, who had only joined the German side in August 2026.
His move to the Signal Iduna Park has provided the Black and Yellow with an additional midfield option for manager Niko Kovač during the current 2026/2027 campaign.
According to Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Arsenal included a recall option in the agreement, allowing the Gunners to bring Nwaneri back to the club during the winter window in January should they decide to do so.
The Super Eagles-eligible midfielder moved to the Bundesliga side in search of prominent and consistent playing time during the current campaign after struggling to feature regularly in London.
Nwaneri had found it difficult to secure consistent first-team opportunities at the Emirates Stadium last season and also endured a challenging loan spell at Olympique Marseille.
Despite the disappointment, the young midfielder will now be keen to showcase an improved performance in Germany and make the most of the opportunity to continue his growth and development.
Nwaneri will also hope to establish himself as an important figure in Kovač's squad while using the loan spell to regain his confidence and secure regular first-team football.
