Liverpool may have missed out on signing Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara this summer, but that could potentially change in the January transfer window.
The Reds didn’t sign a single midfielder in the summer, which feels like such a needless risk, putting pressure on key men to stay fit and youngster Trey Nyoni to step up in the senior squad.
Lamara was mentioned as an option for Liverpool many times, but the rumours cooled in the end, and Chelsea missed out on signing him on deadline day.
But reports have continued to link the 22-year-old with the Reds, with one claiming that he could replace Alexis Mac Allister when this season reaches its conclusion.
Meanwhile, BBC Sport have now said that a January move for Camara or another midfielder isn’t out of the question, as well as next summer:
“Liverpool have not had a genuine number six since Fabinho left in 2023 but senior figures at the club are content with the midfield options for now.
[…]
“The understanding is that any permanent move for a midfielder would only happen in January or next summer. Liverpool did look at Lamine Camara but there was no plan to buy a midfielder this summer.”
Liverpool must look to sign Lamine Camara in 2027
It was frustrating to see Liverpool miss out on Camara, but he should be viewed as a leading midfield option for them in 2027, regardless of Mac Allister’s future.
The Senegal international would bring the defensive quality that the Reds are lacking in the middle of the park, with Monaco manager Filipe Luis heaping huge praise on him recently, saying:
“From everything that I saw, there is one thing that caught my eye. I have never seen that in 20 years; it’s Lamine Camara. He is a ‘different’ player from what I’ve seen so far. His ability to manage things on the pitch and his concentration. He has a level that is way, way above average.”
Camara can add the balance that Liverpool don’t have currently – Dominik Szoboszlai is struggling in a deeper role and Mac Allister looks leggy – and at 22, he still has a huge amount of time to improve, possibly becoming one of the most influential players in Europe in his position.
