As per latest transfer news, Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has joined Valencia on loan for the rest of the season. The move gives the 23-year-old another chance to find regular game time.
Harvey Elliott set for Valencia loan
As reported by BBC Sport, Liverpool and Valencia have completed a loan deal for Elliott. Valencia have been working to find a financially suitable agreement and Liverpool will cover a portion of Elliott’s wages.
There will be no option or obligation to buy for Valencia to sign Elliott permanently. He was a regular duringLiverpool’s pre-season campaign under new head coach Andoni Iraola. However, Elliott was left out of Liverpool’s first two Premier League squads. This suggests he could struggle to get regular minutes this season. His Liverpool contract runs until 2028. That gives Elliott plenty of time to return to Anfield and fight for his place.
Elliott needs regular football
Elliott’s move to Valencia comes after a difficult spell at Aston Villa last season. As reported by AOL, Elliott struggled to get regular opportunities under Unai Emery and made only one Premier League start during his loan spell.
The situation continued after his return to Liverpool. Iraola recently explained that he could only select 20 players for a matchday squad and admitted that he preferred other options ahead of Elliott. That lack of playing time has made the Valencia move an important opportunity for the midfielder. Regular football in Spain could help him rebuild his confidence and show the qualities that made him one of England’s most promising young players.
Elliott joined Liverpool from Fulham as a 16-year-old in 2019. He then spent the 2020/21 season on loan at Blackburn Rovers. There, he gained valuable Championship experience. Since then, he has made many appearances for Liverpool. However, he has struggled to become a regular starter.
Harvey Elliott’s 2025/26 stats for Aston Villa, as per FOTMOB:
Competition Appearances Chances Created Passing Accuracy(%)
Premier League 5 1 84.1%
EFL Cup 1 1 90.6%
Europa League 4 – 87.7%
Valencia offer Elliott fresh chance
Valencia could provide Elliott with the platform he needs to revive his career. The Spanish club managed a ninth-place finish in La Liga last season and will be hoping to improve on that position. Elliott is expected to have an important role under manager Carlos Corberan. Elliott’s technical ability could be suited to Spanish football and his ball-playing skills and creativity could become significant assets.
The midfielder’s primary objective will be to get some game time and prove his talent. A good season can also help to rebuild his confidence and make him more likely to be involved in the future squads of Liverpool. The move gives Elliott a chance to experience a new style of football after spending his career in England.
For Liverpool, the temporary move could help Elliott develop while also reducing competition for places in Iraola’s squad. The club have also completed the permanent sale of defensive midfielder Stefan Bajcetic, who has joined his boyhood club Celta Vigo. The Reds will still control Elliott’s future after his spell in Spain. If he performs well for Valencia, the 23-year-old could return to Anfield with more confidence and a stronger chance of earning regular first-team football.
