It would be emotional for the Minnesota Timberwolves to have a reunion with former franchise star Kevin Love ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Love has been playing in the league since 2008 when the Timberwolves selected him first overall in the draft. He shined as their top player from 2008 to 2014 before Minnesota traded him to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
NBA insider Brett Siegel appeared on the latest Clutch Scoops show with Tomer Azarly. They discussed multiple topics throughout the episode, including the likelihood of Love returning to the franchise.
“Kevin Love being a free agent, it's a very interesting situation where our colleague over at the Athletic, Jon Krawczynski, he recently mentioned him as being a potential guy to reunite with the Minnesota Timberwolves. And I think that pursuit will be awesome to see Love go back there,” Siegel said at the 52:30 mark.
“I think it's a real possibility at this point to bring in him as a former champion, a franchise icon, and a great locker room guy for this Minnesota team, especially to be the perfect veteran to kind of help Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball as they're really entering the primes of their career. So I'd love to see Kevin Love back in a Wolves jersey. I think that it's looking more likely than not likely at this point. But we'll wait and see what happens over the course of the next few weeks.”

What's next for Timberwolves amid Kevin Love rumors
Kevin Love had the honor of winning a championship with the Cavaliers in 2026 on top of multiple NBA Finals appearances with them and the Miami Heat.
Love now looks to bring that immense experience over to his next team, possibly the Timberwolves. His last squad was with the Utah Jazz, averaging 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds per game throughout 37 contests last season.
Minnesota finished with a 49-33 record last season, securing the sixth seed in the Western Conference standings. They finished above the Portland Trail Blazers and the Phoenix Suns while trailing the Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Timberwolves made noise in the playoffs, stunning the Denver Nuggets in six games despite suffering significant injuries. However, their postseason journey ended after losing to the San Antonio Spurs in six games.
