In the perspective of his father, Klay Thompson is seeking to hit two birds with one stone upon joining the Miami Heat.
Particularly, Mychal Thompson believes that Klay is looking for renewed basketball purpose and a golden opportunity to win it all again in South Beach.
"Well, he still loves playing basketball. He's kept that passion. He still wants to play. He still has a love, deep love and affection for the game. That's number one. And number two, four rings, he's desperate to get that fifth ring. So is Steph [Curry], so is LeBron [James]," the retired former NBA star said on 104.3 WQAM.
"Because when you get to that five-ring class, that's like a special class."

Klay Thompson currently holds four NBA championships on his Hall of Fame resume, tied with Stephen Curry and LeBron James. As such, joining the Miami Heat presents him with a major possibility to go for ring No. 5 and surpass them.
Teaming up with Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bam Adebayo in Miami, Thompson is poised to reignite his name and reputation as one of the greatest shooters of all time. Certainly, Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra will offer him plenty of looks to score.
Thompson averaged 11.7 points, 2.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists in 21.7 minutes last season for the Dallas Mavericks, shooting 38.3% from three in 69 games.
Thompson's seriousness about going to the Heat was already evident when he went viral for asking about the franchise's current record for three-pointers made in a single season.
Wearing a Miami uniform and motivated ahead of the next 2026-27 NBA season, Thompson can't be more eager to become the first active NBA player with five championship rings.
