Enzo Fernandez leaving Chelsea didn’t catch too many supporters off guard following the summer-long saga, although club legend John Terry had belief he would stay at the club.
It took until the final moments of deadline day for Fernandez to be announced as a new Manchester City player, and the Blues couldn’t find a replacement in the limited time left in the window.
The Argentine penned an emotional message to Chelsea supporters after his exit was confirmed, with him clearly gaining an affection for the club despite his desire to leave.

John Terry was convinced Enzo Fernandez would stay after private conversation
John Terry was asked about the midfielder, and he shared details of a conversation he had with him recently about potentially buying the club legend’s house, as he looked to establish himself as a legend at Stamford Bridge.
Terry told his YouTube channel: “Knowing him as the player and person that I do, he loved his time at Chelsea. He actually came to look at my house and wanted to buy my house because he wanted to stay and commit for the next 10 years at our football club.
“He had a long contract here, but he’s like, ‘JT, I want to be here. I want to show the fans and the owners that I’m committing to the area. I’m committing to our football club.’
“And even those words, it was like, ‘our football club.’ It’s a small detail, but it’s a big thing for me. I know his family were happy here.”
The Blues pushed to bring in Lamine Camara in the final hours of the transfer window as somewhat of a replacement for Fernandez, however Monaco pulled the plug on the deal, much to the annoyance of all parties.

Chelsea’s solution to Fernandez exit
The Blues are having to look internally for a replacement for Fernandez, with Reece James seemingly being the in-house answer to their midfield woes.
Chelsea are going to be relying on him staying fit, as well as Romeo Lavia, to partner Moises Caicedo throughout the season.
The club are making moves already though to not get stung in a future transfer window when it comes to signing a new midfielder.
The Blues are reportedly looking to strike a pre-agreement with Alex Scott, after seeing a number of bids for his services rejected by Bournemouth this summer.
