Mohamed Salah has revealed Dominik Szoboszlai was one of his former Liverpool team-mates left in awe at the reception he received from Trabzonspor supporters. Salah announced in March that he would bring the curtain down on his illustrious career at Anfield following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season.
The 34-year-old departed Liverpool having lifted two Premier League titles, a Champions League, an FA Cup and two Carabao Cups. And after months of speculation, Salah's next destination was finally confirmed in August when he agreed to sign for Trabzonspor.
After an agreement was reached, thousands gathered to welcome him to the club at Trabzon Airport before a signing ceremony took place at Papara Park.
Salah himself could not hide his astonishment at the crowds that gathered to welcome him at the airport, and many of his ex-Liverpool team-mates reached out to tell him the same.
“I looked up the best places in the city,” the forward told Futbol Arena when asked why he moved to Trabzonspor. “He was asked ‘What kind of research did you do after hanging up the phone?’

“I’ve played for clubs where football is deeply ingrained in the culture. I know that being in a city where people are passionate about football is different from being in the capital or elsewhere.
“I was instantly excited when I heard about Trabzonspor’s interest. Once I arrived, I also looked into various locations and the best food available.
“After the reception at the airport and the stadium, the next day my Liverpool team-mates called me. Szoboszlai and I are still talking. They said they’d never seen anything like it before.”
Speaking for the first time after touching down in Turkey, Salah made no secret of his delight at joining Trabzonspor.
He said: "I am extremely happy to be in this amazing atmosphere I don't recall ever seeing anything like this before, and words fail to describe how happy I am.
"There are 25,000 people here, this is unbelievable, I have never seen anything like this.
“I have achieved success everywhere, and I want to achieve success with Trabzonspor too, in the league and at the European level."
