Chelsea are not the right club for Tottenham Hotspur‘s Lucas Bergvall at this stage of his career.
That’s according to SVT expert Magnus Eriksson, who addresses recent Chelsea interest in the midfielder.
Chelsea already linked
In June, there were links of the Blues as an option for the 20-year-old, after he reportedly requested to leave Tottenham Hotspur.
Journalist Fredrik de Ron had then urged Lucas Bergvall not to consider Chelsea, also because of their new manager, Xabi Alonso.
On deadline day, the Stamford Bridge club sold Enzo Fernández to Manchester City. The UK press then reported Chelsea want to sign the Sweden international to replace the Argentine. However, a move didn’t go through.
Magnus Eriksson, who represented several clubs including AIK Fotboll and Malmö FF during his playing career, believes Chelsea aren’t the right club for his compatriot. The expert believes the Blues are a step higher than Spurs.
“Where he is today, it is about continuity and playing time. Going to a better team than Tottenham would not benefit him,” he said.
Concern over Tottenham situation
Lucas Bergvall moved to the Premier League side in 2024 and has played 80 matches so far.
In July, the player said he wants regular minutes, when asked about his future at Spurs.
Since Roberto De Zerbi joined Tottenham Hotspur in March, the youngster hasn’t enjoyed regular minutes. To put it in context, he played 248 minutes from seven matches and 45 were in the league this season.
SVT reports the Swede is unhappy with his situation, and Magnus Eriksson shares his take on his restricted role at the north London club.
“I think it boils down to playing time. Where does Lucas Bergvall have the best chance to play soccer?” Eriksson explained.
Bergvall has to fight for his place to become a starter under De Zerbi. If there’s no improvement in his situation in the coming months, he may look for a way out in January.
