Liverpool are still looking for their first win of the season and travel to take on Ipswich in the third game of the season.
The end of the transfer window has seen Bradley Barcola join the club and while he might be involved in this game I don’t think he will be ready to start in this game.
GK- Alisson
Alisson is the confident number one at the club and his form by no means would lead for the need to bring in Mamardashvili. He was unfortunate to concede the penalty against Nottingham Forest and his quality should push the keeper to look for his first clean sheet of the season against Ipswich.
RB- Jeremie Frimpong
This is one of the positions that could be up for grabs in the coming weeks. There is a chance that Ronald Araujo is asked to play in this position to add some defensive cover in this area.
I think Iraola will opt for the attacking option of Frimpong against the newly promoted side in this case.
CB- Jeremy Jacquet
Jacquet is still adapting to the physical nature of the league, but still needs to develop this over time. The best way to do this is to continue to back the defender and give him as many opportunities as possible.
CB- Virgil van Dijk
Van Dijk will play in the Liverpool team until he is unfit to do so through injury. There may be signs that the captain has lost some of his pace, but is still one of the best defenders in the league. His experience alongside Jacquet will also be invaluable.
LB- Milos Kerkez
Kerkez hasn’t been a standout performer so far, but from his time at Bournemouth we can see what he can do in that role. After a series of defensive mistakes last season, he is likely to be lacking some confidence in the role but this will hopefully build throughout the year.
CDM- Dominik Szoboszlai
Szoboszlai is one of the crucial pieces of the Liverpool squad after a tremendous year last season. He is so versatile that his position will not be based on where his best position is, but which position the team needs him in that week. There had been rumours circulating that he had been training at right-back this week although I think this could be part of a plan in case of injury to Frimpong or for tactical use during a game.
CDM- Alexis Mac Allister
Mac Allister and Szoboszlai formed a good partnership in the more defensive roles of midfield against Nottingham Forest and the glaring holes that had been evident against Newcastle on transition.
CAM- Florian Wirtz
Wirtz has started to show some of his best on the ball in recent weeks. There is still plenty of growth for him in the number 10 role. In the next few weeks, we will see the impact that having another star player in Bradley Barcola drawing extra attention to draw extra space for Wirtz.
RW- Rio Ngumoha
Rio will be rotated in and out of the team throughout the year, and I feel he will come into the side against the newly promoted Ipswich. There is a chance that a shuffle of the front three could happen, with Bradley Barcola coming in to start just a few days after he joined the club.
LW- Cody Gakpo
Ahead of the last game, it looked like Gakpo would not be a Liverpool player by the end of the transfer window, but Liverpool decided to keep the winger. He will now be facing competition from Bradley Barcola for that left-wing role, but I think he will still be back by Iraola for this game. Gakpo scored Liverpool’s first against Newcastle and assisted Alexander Isak against Forest.
ST- Alexander Isak
Isak has been backed up front in both games so far this season. He was found at the back post by Cody Gakpo to bring the game back to 1-1. His first of the season which should help build his confidence as he prepares to take on the newly promoted Ipswich.
