The Italian manager at the Etihad Stadium will no doubt have huge ambitions for the club in Europe's premier competition, but will be well aware of the challenge that awaits his players in the opening stage of the tournament.
In Manchester City's eight matches in the league phase of the competition, the club will embark on four matches at the Etihad Stadium and four matches away from home, with the first task being a trip to FC Porto this month.
The clash in Portugal is then followed by back-to-back home ties against Paris Saint-Germain and AEK Athens, before a trip to Germany to take on RB Leipzig, and returning to the Etihad Stadium for a reunion with Kevin De Bruyne and Napoli.
