Tottenham leave the forward out of their 25-man Premier League squad after his proposed Everton return collapsed on Deadline Day.
Tottenham Hotspur have officially submitted their 25-man squad for the 2026/27 Premier League season, with Brazilian forward Richarlison left off the list. As confirmed by club channels and reported by Last Word On Spurs on X, the decision leaves the 29-year-old completely ineligible to feature in domestic league fixtures until the winter transfer window opens in January at the earliest.
Premier League rules mandate that each club can register a maximum of 25 senior players over the age of 21, with no more than 17 non-homegrown spots allowed in the roster. Following an active transfer window that saw key additions including Omar Marmoush, Sávio, Sandro Tonali, and Mohammed Kudus, Tottenham reached their upper limit for overseas player registrations.
With squad slots strictly constrained, head coach Roberto De Zerbi opted to prioritize newly acquired talent alongside recovering players such as Xavi Simons and Dejan Kulusevski. De Zerbi previously noted that the Brazilian striker had expressed a desire to leave multiple times during the summer, with the club informing the forward beforehand that he would not form part of the manager’s primary tactical plans.
Collapse of Everton Deal and Transfer Fallout
The squad omission follows a chaotic conclusion to the English transfer window. A proposed return to former club Everton appeared close after a deal valued near £35 million was agreed in principle between the clubs. However, negotiations broke down on deadline day following contract disagreements and public statements from the player regarding his future.
Despite remaining under contract at Tottenham, Richarlison now finds himself isolated from first-team league action. Having joined Spurs from Everton for over £50 million in 2022, the forward has recorded 27 goals in 102 appearances across his four seasons in North London.

While the English transfer deadline has passed, Richarlison could still secure a departure before January. Overseas transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain open, with Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor continuing to explore a deal for the Brazilian attacker.
If a move abroad fails to materialize, Richarlison will remain restricted to training and potential domestic cup duty until Tottenham can revise their official squad submission midway through the campaign.
