Liverpool have officially announced the signing of young striker Djylian N’Guessan from Saint-Etienne.
N’Guessan is set to join Liverpool officially in January, but will spend the season on loan at Ligue 1 side Stade Brestois.
The France youth international is the third teenager to join the Reds this summer following the signings of centre-back Ifeanyi Ndukwe and goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans.
Ndukwe has joined Levante on loan, while Brughmans will also spend the rest of the season on loan at Genk.
N’Guessan rose through the ranks at St. Etienne to become a first-team player. He made 13 appearances for the French side, scoring once.
The French attacker is known for his versatility, intelligent movement and good link-up play.
He scored four goals at last summer’s FIFA U17 World Cup and was named in the Team of the Tournament. He also featured in seven games at the U20 World Cup.
N’Guessan will have a chance to gain more first-team experience at Brest before joining Liverpool.
Mama Balde and Ludovic Ajorque are Brest’s current centre-forward options, suggesting that the teenager will have to compete for a starting place.
N’Guessan could make his Ligue 1 debut when the Pirates face Le Havre on Saturday.
The St.Etienne academy graduate needs to enjoy a strong campaign at Brest to stand a realistic chance of playing for Liverpool’s first team next season.
The arrivals of Victor Munoz and Bradley Barcola have increased competition for places in the Reds’ attacking department.
Academy graduates Lewis Koumas and Jayden Danns are also expected to supplement Liverpool’s senior attackers, making it even more important for N’Guessan to impress during his loan spell at Brest.
