**Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher hasn’t held back on his criticism of Reds defender Milos Kerkez, describing the Hungarian as the “Darwin Nunez of full-backs.”**
The left-back moved to Anfield from Bournemouth last summer, arriving as a likely upgrade on the ageing Andy Robertson, but he has struggled to date.
Too often, Kerkez’s performances have been erratic defensively, while in an attacking sense, there hasn’t been anywhere near enough quality on show.
Speaking on Stick to Football \[via [_Empire of the Kop_](https://www.empireofthekop.com/2026/09/03/carragher-echoes-riise-critique-of-liverpool-player-100-mph/)\], Carragher gave a scathing assessment of the 22-year-old, even comparing him to the much-maligned Darwin Nunez:
_“You’re watching the game and you’re thinking, ‘Why has he done that?’_
_“I described Kerkez last season – and it was his first season, maybe it felt a bit harsh at the time – he’s the Darwin Nunez of full-backs. It’s like ‘head down and run’. Everything Kerkez does is 100 miles an hour._
_“When you’re on a football pitch, you’re very rarely running as fast as you can. You have to stop, you have to change direction, but he does everything 100 miles an hour. Every time he closes someone down, every time he passes it – bang!”_
**Liverpool need far more from Milos Kerkez this season**

While Kerkez isn’t as big an issue as Jeremie Frimpong on the right, he has to find another gear at Liverpool, especially now that he is working alongside Andoni Iraola again.
As Carragher says, there is an action-packed style about him that isn’t actually a positive, with everything often feeling too rushed both in and out of possession.
The best full-backs display calm, whether that is up against a dangerous winger or delivering a cross into the box, and Kerkez is showing neither on a consistent basis.
The Hungary international is still only 22, which is easy to forget, but if his second season in a Liverpool shirt is again underwhelming, questions will need to be asked about him being the long-term replacement for Robertson or not.
Bradley Barcola’s arrival from Paris Saint-Germain will hopefully help Kerkez, creating more space for him when the Reds attack, and it is time for him to show why he was such a popular signing last year.
