**Brighton manager Fabian Hurzeler has suggested that Yankuba Minteh may still get his dream move to Liverpool after a deal didn’t materialise in the summer transfer window.**
Liverpool had multiple bids rejected by the Seagulls, with the south coast outfit valuing the 22-year-old at £75m, which the Reds refused to pay and quite rightly.
As talented as Minteh is, he is yet to display an elite attacking output that would warrant a fee as big as the one paid to bring Virgil van Dijk to Anfield in 20218.
Granted, the transfer market is massively inflated and transfer values have shifted, but all the same, Liverpool are justified in not matching Brighton’s massive valuation of the Gambian.
And that’s before you factor in his injury, which would have only see Minteh make his debut in October or later after he underwent surgery to repair a hip injury suffered during pre-season.
Before the transfer window closed Hurzeler urged Minteh to reject Liverpool and commit himself to the club. He said: “If you ask me if I’ll try to convince him to stay, yes I try to convince him to stay. But can I control everything? No, I can’t control everything.”
Now, speaking at a press conference ahead of Brighton’s Premier League clash with Leeds at the Amex stadium tomorrow, Hurzeler says that Minteh will get his chance to pursue his dream of joining Liverpool.
“If the whole team is successful and the individual shines then Yankuba will get a lot of attention again and he can then maybe fulfil his dream in the next transfer window,” Hurzeler said.

Hurzeler likely means the next summer transfer window, but I do wonder if there is any chance for Liverpool to revisit a move to sign Minteh in the January transfer window.
Liverpool have retained Cody Gakpo, so they are not as desperate for attacking reinforcements, especially after the arrival of £123m man Bradley Barcola, but Andoni Iraola doesn’t have a left-footed right-winger, which leaves the attack a bit lopsided in terms of profiles.
That said, if there are any plans being made for the January window, signing a right-back and a midfielder is far more important.
