Spurs reporter blasts former Lakers wing who signed with Clippers after NBA’s ruling image
Is it wrong to think that players who signed with the Los Angeles Clippers this offseason aren't happy?
Well, perhaps not, but many of them also understood the risk, as the NBA was investigating the organization. One player who did was Rui Hachimura.
Hachimura, who was with the Los Angeles Lakers before this, had other options in the NBA, including one with the San Antonio Spurs. One Spurs reporter believes that he certainly regrets his decision, adding that San Antonio gave him the full mid-level exception with a chance to start.
“Watching the Clippers implode today, you have to wonder if Rui Hachimura regrets his July free agency choice,” Garza wrote on X.
“The Spurs called him with the full (midlevel exception) to put him next to (Victor Wembanyama) on a contender with plenty of draft capital and a bright future but instead, he took the exact same money (2 years, $28M) to stay in LA with the Clippers (except the deal he took features a second-year team option. Ouch!) The Spurs immediately pivoted and signed Tobias Harris when they heard him waffling.”
Hachimura may have just wanted to stay in Los Angeles, which isn't unfair or wrong. Ultimately, it's his career. However, it's also important to admit that he would have had a better basketball fit in San Antonio, at least in terms of having a chance to win right away.
