The Knicks got their parade, their rings and a championship after 53 years without one. They also got a division rival that spent the summer making the next run a lot nastier.
Philadelphia added Jaylen Brown and LeBron James to a group that already includes Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. You do not need to crown the 76ers in September to admit that the Atlantic is no longer a division the Knicks can breeze through on reputation alone.

Knicks now have a real Atlantic problem
The Knicks did not stand still. They brought back Jose Alvarado, Jordan Clarkson, Mohamed Diawara and Landry Shamet, then added Andre Drummond behind Karl-Anthony Towns. It is a serious group, and it earned every bit of confidence that comes with winning the title.
But the 76ers made the summer personal. Brown left Boston for Philadelphia. LeBron followed. The official league outlook called the division shakeup a major one, and it is hard to argue with that. The Knicks will not see a normal divisional opponent when they face Philly. They will see a team built to knock them off the top of the conference.
Good for the Knicks, honestly. Nobody in that locker room should want a gentle ride after June. The title is the proof that the roster can win four rounds. The new job is proving it can handle a league that has spent all summer preparing for them.
Knicks still own the standard
The important part is not letting Philadelphia’s splash erase what New York has. Jalen Brunson is the Finals MVP. Towns, OG Anunoby and Josh Hart are back. Drummond gives the frontcourt another experienced rebounder after Mitchell Robinson left in free agency.
I do not buy the idea that the champion suddenly needs to panic because someone else won July. The Knicks have the better recent proof. They know how to close a game, get through a nasty series and carry a crowd that has been waiting for a title forever.
Still, the East got meaner. The Knicks should welcome the target, then make Philadelphia prove it can take the crown away.
