As the SEC and LSU continue to battle over whether the Tigers will use former NFL players in Saturday night’s regular-season opener, LSU’s opponent has chimed in.
Via Ross Dellenger of Yahoo Sports, Clemson has informed LSU that playing former professional players on Saturday [may constitute a breach](https://x.com/YahooSports/status/2095938366776721524?s=20) of the game contract.
That said, Clemson said it intends to play the game — and that it is not seeking financial damages.
Obvious question: Why raise it if they’re not going to do anything about it?
Obvious answer: It’s another piece of performative nonsense aimed at getting a federal antitrust exemption.
And here’s the final point for now, one that was made on Friday’s _PFT Live_. Why are college teams making an issue out of using “professional” players? Currently, _college football players are professional players_.
The guys who want to return to LSU aren’t doing it because they’re choosing to eschew the riches of the NFL in an effort to win a national title. Playing for LSU pays them better than they’d be paid as members of a pro team’s practice squad.
