While the Dallas Cowboys are preparing for a Super Bowl push this upcoming campaign, the latest NFL rumors could intensify after the 2026 season. There’s reportedly looming “doubt” that the Cowboys could retain CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens on huge long-term contracts. It could lead to a potential trade the following season involving one of the pass-catchers. Meanwhile, Pickens is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent next offseason, while Lamb is eligible for a new deal in 2028. It appears that Executive Vice President Stephen Jones verbalized can’t keep both under large deals, similar to the Cincinnati Bengals situation with Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins:

“I don’t know of any teams that really can pay two top receivers top of the market, so that’s gonna be a real difficult situation as we move forward,” he said during an interview on the DLLS Cowboys podcast. “We’ve managed to figure out how we can do it for this year. If everything works out the way we think it is, [in] which CeeDee and George both have huge years again, then it’ll be a bigger challenge next year.”

Last season, the former Pittsburgh Steeler finished the 2025 season with 93 receptions, 1,429 receiving yards, and 9 touchdowns in 17 games. Meanwhile, Lamb recorded 75 receptions for 1,077 yards and 3 touchdowns in 14 games. It could come down to a tough decision, as the Cowboys said they do not intend to offer Pickens a long-term contract during the 2026 season.

What Now?

Having already restructured Lamb’s contract, the wideout may be looking to exceed the top market. After all, even if Pickens has another All-Pro season this upcoming campaign, what does the future hold for the 2020 draft selection? He will be almost 3o-years-old and will probably ask for a new contract before the 2027 season to secure his future as a Cowboy for life.

However, that is why the Cowboys are pushing to win now rather than later. Dallas has teased a blockbuster trade for weeks and could target high-profile names, including Josh Sweat, Maxx Crosby, Kobie Turner and more.

Meanwhile, the Cowboys have no interest in paying the top-10 market value for two receivers. It could be an interesting development to watch if Dallas does not win the Super Bowl within the next two years. If Pickens receives a new contract, unfortunately, Lamb could be traded at some point.
