Chelsea Women name Erin Cuthbert captain with Bronze and Björn as vice-captains

**Chelsea Women have named Lucy Bronze and Nathalie Bjorn as vice-captains following Erin Cuthbert’s appointment as the club’s new skipper.**

Cuthbert was confirmed as Chelsea Women captain earlier on Friday, succeeding Millie Bright following her retirement.

Chelsea have now completed the new leadership group ahead of Saturday’s WSL opener against Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge.

[Chelsea officially confirmed the appointments](https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/chelsea-women-vice-captains-confirmed?utm_source=chatgpt.com), with both Bronze and Bjorn set to support Cuthbert throughout the 2026/27 campaign.

Bjorn has made **56 appearances** for Chelsea since arriving midway through the 2023/24 season.

The Sweden international has already won two WSL titles, one Women’s FA Cup and two Women’s League Cups during her time with the Blues.

Her experience at both club and international level makes the 29-year-old a natural member of Sonia Bompastor’s leadership group.

Bronze brings even greater experience.

The England international joined Chelsea ahead of the 2024/25 campaign and has since made **58 appearances** for the club.

She has won two European Championships with England and was part of the Lionesses side that reached the 2023 World Cup final.

The appointments complete a significant change at the top of Chelsea Women’s dressing room.

Cuthbert takes the main armband after more than a decade at the club, while Bronze and Bjorn provide Bompastor with two experienced defensive leaders alongside her.

The timing also means the new hierarchy is in place before Chelsea begin their domestic season.

The Blues face Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, with Chelsea beginning their new WSL campaign without Mayra Ramirez and Manaka Matsukubo.

It will also be Chelsea Women’s first league fixture since Stamford Bridge became the side’s permanent WSL home.

Cuthbert, Bronze and Bjorn will now form the leadership group tasked with guiding Chelsea through that new era.
