According to The Athletic’s Matt Barrows, the 49ers are adding Kareem after a foot injury prevented pass rusher Okuayinonu from traveling with the team to Australia. Greg Auman of FOX Sports adds that Kareem is now on his way to Melbourne for San Francisco’s season-opening matchup with the Rams. The veteran edge defender should be able to transition easily into defensive coordinator Raheem Morris’s defense. Morris spent the past two seasons as the head coach in Atlanta, where Kareem played six games over that span with the Falcons.
