David Moyes has made his feelings towards Everton clear despite revealing he has never had a conversation with owner Dan Friedkin.
Quite an admission after the week the club has just endured.
According to Dominic King of the Telegraph, Moyes has never spoken directly to Friedkin since returning for his second spell as Everton manager in January 2025.
Instead, his main contact is chief executive Angus Kinnear, with Rishi Majithia – the ‘owner’s representative’ – another link between the manager and the ownership.
Yet King reports that the lack of direct contact with Friedkin is not a concern for Moyes, who has made it clear he has no intention of walking away despite a transfer window which tested his patience.
Moyes isn’t walking away
That is probably the most important part for Evertonians. Some will have mixed feelings.
Moyes made little secret of wanting more from the summer window and has been left with just 18 senior outfield players after a chaotic final few days.
Iliman Ndiaye was sold to City, Beto departed for Fiorentina and the proposed deadline-day move for Folarin Balogun collapsed.
Moyes has since admitted Everton should have tried to get more of their business done earlier. But there was no suggestion on Friday that the events of this week have made him question his commitment to the club. Quite the opposite.
Moyes said he would not have returned for anybody but Everton and spoke of how being back at the club has reinvigorated him. Talks over extending his contract are also ongoing.
There are still obvious questions for those above him to answer. The revelation that Everton’s manager has never spoken directly to the club’s owner is extraordinary, particularly after a week which has placed the hierarchy under such scrutiny.
Moyes, though, is going nowhere. After the week Evertonians have had, many will probably be glad to hear it.
