Enzo Maresca has come to the rescue after a rather baity comment from Enzo Fernandez.
Enzo Fernandez’s £125 million move to Manchester City wasn’t just a big-money transfer, it was a messy divorce. After flirting with Real Madrid all summer, the Argentine made it clear he wanted out of Chelsea, desperate to reunite with Enzo Maresca at the Etihad.
The breaking point came during Chelsea’s opening match against Fulham. Fernandez reached his limit at the final whistle, as he marched straight down the tunnel, ignoring the travelling supporters completely.
He never kicked a ball for Chelsea again, forcing through his dream move to City on deadline day and making a rather debatable comment after his announcement.
Enzo Fernandez’s comment after joining Manchester City
Enzo Fernandez sparked major backlash from Chelsea fans following his £125 million deadline-day move to Manchester City.
In his first interview, the midfielder stated, “I always dreamed of being at a club as big as Manchester City,” a comment widely viewed as a deliberate parting dig at Stamford Bridge.
However, Enzo Maresca has jumped to his and Chelsea’s defence, stating that both Man City and the Blues are big clubs in his press conference ahead of their clash with Coventry City.
He said: “I think Enzo Fernandez was already in a big club like Chelsea and he’s happy to be with us now. I think Chelsea is a big club and City is a big club.”
Maresca was never going to throw his new man Enzo Fernandez under the bus, nor his old clubs Chelsea, so we’re not quite sure what the interviewer was trying to get out of the question.
