Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed a big injury boost on midfielder Mason Mount ahead of the Premier League clash against Everton on Sunday.
The Red Devils travel to the Hill Dickinson Stadium for tomorrow’s afternoon kick-off. Ahead of the game, Carrick has provided a positive update on Mount, who has been sidelined for some time.
The Englishman has not played for United since going off injured during the pre-season friendly against Paris Saint-Germain. He has yet to make the matchday squad for the club this campaign.
Speaking exclusively to MUTV, the manager has now revealed that Mount has been training for a good number of days and hinted that he is in good shape ahead of Sunday’s trip to Merseyside.
He said: “Mason’s been training now for good number of days, so he’s backing around it which is great.”
Mount’s return would be a huge boost for United
The 27-year-old has endured an injury-plagued career with United since his initial £55 million move from Chelsea in 2023. He has already missed over 70 competitive matches.
Despite this, he has been praised by multiple managers, and Carrick no doubt admires him. Mount was a regular in a deeper midfield position during the first phase of pre-season this summer.
The Englishman caught the eye with his distribution in particular, but unfortunately suffered an injury against PSG. It was described as minor at the time but has kept him out for several weeks.
The midfielder is unlikely to be rushed back into action, given his injury record, but judging by Carrick’s update, the former Blues star could make a cameo appearance off the bench.
Kobbie Mainoo and Youri Tielemans were brilliant in the heart of the midfield against Ipswich, and the manager is widely expected to continue with the same partnership tomorrow.
Andrey Santos came off the bench in the second half against the Tractor Boys. After another injury break, Mount could be the fourth-choice central midfielder, at least in the short term.
