Liverpool
Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign teenage winger Djylian N’Guessan from Saint-Etienne for a reported €5m fee. The 18-year-old will officially join the club in January before spending the 2026/27 campaign on loan at Ligue 1 side Brest, as per latest transfer news.
Djylian N’Guessan completes Liverpool agreement
As reported by The Independent, N’Guessan will become a Liverpool player in January after the club reached an agreement with Saint-Etienne for the young forward. The French winger has made 13 appearances for Saint-Etienne since making his senior debut in January 2025. He has scored once during that time but has impressed at international youth level.
N’Guessan has scored 11 goals in 11 appearances for France’s Under-17 side, showing his goalscoring ability at youth level. He also starred at the 2025 European Under-17 Championship, scoring three goals as France reached the final. His performances earned him a place in the team of the tournament.
The teenager also featured seven times for France at the 2025 Under-20 World Cup, adding further international experience despite his young age. N’Guessan will initially remain in France after completing his move, with Brest set to provide him with an opportunity to play regular senior football. Liverpool will then decide in January whether he should remain at Brest for the rest of the season or return to Anfield.
Liverpool continue focus on young talent
N’Guessan is the second teenager Liverpool have agreed to sign this summer after goalkeeper Lucca Brughmans joined from Genk. Brughmans arrived for a low initial fee that could eventually rise to around £30m if certain conditions are met.
Liverpool have also improved their youth setup over the past year. The club has brought in several young players. Goalkeeper Armin Pesci, centre-backs Mor Talla N’Diaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe, and midfielder Samuel Martinez have all joined Anfield. These moves are part of Liverpool’s plan to find and develop young talent.
Liverpool’s Global Talent team continues to look for young players with first-team potential. N’Guessan fits this plan. His performances for France have shown his ability and potential. The loan move to Brest should now give him useful Ligue 1 experience. It will also help him adjust to senior football before Liverpool decide his next move.

Liverpool prepare for another busy season
N’Guessan’s arrival is part of a busy period for Liverpool, who have continued to reshape their squad under new head coach Andoni Iraola. Liverpool have also completed moves for several players during the summer, including Bradley Barcola, Victor Munoz, Jeremy Jacquet and Ronald Araujo.
The Reds are also preparing for a busy season across domestic and European competitions. Liverpool are yet to win in the Premier League under Iraola after drawing their opening two matches against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. Ipswich Town are their next opponents.
The Reds have also done well against newly promoted teams. They are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League games against such sides. Their focus will soon turn to the Champions League. Atletico Madrid will visit Anfield next Wednesday.
Liverpool have already confirmed their 25-man Champions League squad. Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo are among the notable players left out. N’Guessan will not join the first team right away. However, Liverpool will closely follow his progress at Brest. The teenager’s loan should give him regular first-team football. It will also help him improve his game. He could then return to Anfield with more experience. For Liverpool, the move is another step in their plan to build for the future.
