Everton must put their hectic Transfer Deadline Day behind them as they host **Michael Carrick**'s Everton visitors, Manchester United, and look to build on their strong start to the season.
**David Moyes**' side have picked up four of a possible six points, opening their campaign with a strong **2-0 home win over Crystal Palace** before a late leveler from **James Tarkowski** earned the _Blues_ a point.
Everton have only defeated the _Reds_ eight times in the Premier League era, with their last win coming in **April 2022**, when Antony Gordon's deflected strike earned Frank Lampard's side three precious points.

In Marco Silva's first season at the club, he made his side tough to beat when the 'top six' visited **Goodison Park**. In recent weeks, Everton defeated Chelsea and Arsenal but also drew with Liverpool, which stopped them from attaining the Premier League title.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were next up, and Everton dismantled them. It was a fast start from the _Toffees_, with **Richarlison** opening the scoring with a sensational bicycle kick.

**Gylfi Sigurdsson** doubled Everton's lead with a 25-yard strike that flew past **David De Gea**. Everton broke from a Manchester United corner, and the ball fell to the Icelandic, who drifted inside and put his side in a commanding position.
Early in the second half, **Lucas Digne** added Everton's third as again De Gea was beaten from distance. Sigurdsson played through substitute **Theo Walcott**, who added Everton's fourth.

This was David Moyes' first visit back to the club where he spent 11 years, and it proved to be his last game as Manchester United manager.
His successor, **Roberto Martinez**, had Everton firmly in the mix for Champions League football and looked to put their shock 3-2 home defeat to Crystal Palace behind them.
Mark Clattenburg awarded Everton a penalty as **Phil Jones** blocked Romelu Lukaku's strike with his hand, and Leighton Baines, who Moyes wanted to bring with him to United, fired home.
Two minutes before half-time, **Seamus Coleman** drove Everton forward and played in Kevin Mirallas, who was at a narrow angle and struck past De Gea to double Everton's lead.
Despite this being their eighth win out of their last nine games, Everton lost two of their last three games and missed out on Champions League football by seven points.
The following season, Martinez's side thrashed Louis van Gaal's side **3-0**, with goals from James McCarthy, **John Stones** and Mirallas earning the _Blues_ their third consecutive home victory over United.

Everton started the 2012/13 campaign by hosting a Manchester United side which had just signed **Robin Van Persie**. In the back end of the previous campaign, David Moyes' side played a huge part in the title race as they came from 4-2 down to snatch a draw against Sir Alex Ferguson's side.
Under the lights, Everton and **Marouane Fellaini** looked dangerous throughout. The Belgian, who was playing behind Nikica Jelavic, was unstoppable at times and caused problems throughout.
Leon Osman struck the bar early in the second half before a powerful header from Fellaini earned Everton the three points. This was the first time that Everton started the season with a victory in their opening game since 2007.
The impact of Fellaini's terror was notable throughout the 2012/13 season as Everton finished sixth, and the following year the Belgian followed Moyes to Manchester United.

Ten years on from the last time Everton defeated Manchester United, **Duncan Ferguson** once again turned up on the big occasion. In 1995, the forward's powerful back-post header sent Goodison into bedlam as the Scotsman ran down the touchline, showing off his Everton tattoo.
That goal was crucial, as with the arrival of Joe Royle, Everton steered clear of relegation trouble and went on to win the **FA Cup**, defeating Manchester United in the final.
In the 2004/05 season, Everton were one of the favourites for relegation as they had just sold star player **Wayne Rooney**, but David Moyes surprised everyone with his resilient back four; Everton were the masters of a 1-0 victory.
However, their form had dipped with the visit of Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United side; Everton needed to pull a big win out of nowhere.
Duncan Ferguson, whose role by now was predominantly an impact sub, started the game and rolled back the years. Everton won a free-kick near the touchline, which was whipped in by loan signing **Mikel Arteta**, and Ferguson was on the receiving end with a diving header, which fired past future Blue Tim Howard.
That goal proved enough as Everton limped over the line and finished fourth, three points ahead of neighbours Liverpool.

In 2011, David Moyes' side were 3-1 down in added time before two late goals from Fellaini and Arteta somehow rescued Everton a point. Phil Jagielka was breaking before Martin Atkinson blew for full-time, which led to Moyes raging on the pitch.
