Liverpool’s “Dream Target” May Soon Have A Release Clause But There’s A Problem
Bayern Munich will consider including a release clause in the contract of Liverpool target Michael Olise, according to Bild reporter Christian Falk.
The France international still has just under three years left on his current deal, but he doesn’t earn as much as some of his teammates, and Falk says that, in addition to bumping up his pay, Bayern may also propose a buyout fee, although the price could be extortionate for other clubs:
“Jamal Musiala – who we hope is getting better soon – has a release clause in his contract. So this could be an idea for Michael Olise if he signs a new contract. I can say that any release clause that may be attached to the winger’s contract will be very, very high. ”
“If any club chooses to activate this, Bayern will have a lot of money on the table to put towards a successor. At the moment, he has a contract that isn’t as lucrative as the likes of Harry Kane’s or Jamal Musiala’s.”
“So, this is also a good argument for Bayern Munich to try and persuade the player to stay. Either way, I think Bayern Munich would be fine with a release clause as long as we’re discussing figures like €150m, €200m, or €250m.”
Olise would complete Liverpool’s attack
A left-footed right-winger to replace Mo Salah is what the Reds’ forward line is still missing, and the 24-year-old has been labelled as a “dream target” by some in the media.
Olise is likely to consider a return to England in the future. Despite playing for France, he was born in London, but the costs would be prohibitive, even with a potential release clause.
Who could be signed instead?
Yankuba Minteh would probably be the main alternative, considering he has a similar profile to Olise.
The Gambian’s output does, though, pale in comparison. He has made only 19 goal contributions since his move to Brighton two years ago. In the same period, Olise has managed exactly 100 for Bayern.
When you factor in Minteh’s £80m asking price, it is not a surprise that Liverpool opted to back away after having two bids rejected.
