Breaking: LSU Makes Shocking Decision On NFL Players Vs Clemson - Everything You Need To Know 1

LSU and Clemon are set to face off tonight in a highly anticipated first game of the season. Of course, one of the biggest storylines going into this game has been the two former NFL players LSU were (legally) able to bring onto their roster. The reaction, however, from the NCAA, their own conference, and thousands of fans did not go in their favor.

Given all of these factors, LSU made a decision the night before game day. Here are the details.

LSU Will Not Play NFL Players Against Clemson

A few notable names were absent from the Tigers’ season opener roster due to the prolonged battle with the SEC. Despite a preliminary injunction granted by a Louisiana judge on Sept. 3, LSU did not submit a roster that included NFL camp participants Dae’Quan Wright and Zxavian Harris. In a subsequent statement, the SEC said it expected schools to follow its rules.

The move comes in the wake of the SEC threatening dramatic action against teams rostering players who were previously on NFL rosters, including:

50% of season suspension for head coaches

50% of that sport’s annual operating budget

SEC voting privileges revoked on some matters

While it was initially reported the conference’s charter members unanimously voted in approval of the punishments, it was later reported LSU abstained from the vote.

In an interesting twist, LSU only filled 103 of its 105 roster spots, leaving a path for Wright and Harris to be added at a later date.

Wright and Harris were cleared to play by Judge William Jorden, but their names still attract a great deal of attention.

A strong backlash has been directed at LSU for considering playing the two, and the SEC has promised harsh punishments for teams who attempt to play former NFL players. Taking action to preempt Jorden’s ruling, the SEC filed a suit against LSU and Lane Kiffin, claiming its First Amendment rights had been violated by LSU’s play of the players.

Of course, this is not the end of the story.

LSU is sending a clear message that it wants Wright and Harris on the team as two roster spots are open. Since the two students are currently enrolled at LSU, they will be able to be added later.

Due to the uncertainty surrounding this situation, LSU is clearly trying to play it safe until it knows they can get away with having the two on their team. Certainly it’s a half-measure, but eventually the team hopes Wright and Harris can be added.
