It is still early days in the Premier League season. Too early to judge whether any signings are worth what clubs have paid for them and too early to decide whether Manchester City hanging on for a 1-0 win over Coventry City is a good three points or a sign of problems to come.
Enzo Maresca being more unhappy than Frank Lampard when five minutes of extra time were added on at the end of the second half was certainly not something anyone could have foreseen when Erling Haaland hammered the Blues in front with a thumping first-half header. Having cleared from his own box a minute earlier, the No.9 made his way up the pitch and then picked his moment perfectly to convert Antoine Semenyo's cross.
There could, and probably should have been more City goals and as well as Rayan Cherki being at the heart of the team's creativity again there were positive signs from the transfer window. Elliot Anderson purred along in midfield and Enzo Fernandez tuned straight into City wavelengths - despite only getting the call to start when Nico O'Reilly was injured in the warm up.
