Why Patrick Mahomes' Father Needs a Judge's Permission to Watch His Son Play 1
Patrick Mahomes is one of the best players in the league, but even he isn’t immune to scandals now and then. The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback recently faced a very embarrassing situation in his family, involving his father Patrick Mahomes Sr.
His father played as a pitcher in Major League Baseball, and has supported his son a lot in his career. He is now asking for the opportunity to keep supporting his son.
Patrick Mahomes’ father seeks court approval to attend Chiefs games
Mahomes Sr. filed a motion in the 7th District Court in Tyler, Texas, seeking court approval to travel out of state to attend seven of his son’s NFL games during the 2026 season. According to court records reported by KRTE 9, the request covers games in Kansas City, Missouri; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mahomes’ father is currently under probation following his 2024 guilty plea to a driving while intoxicated charge. He originally received a five-year probation sentence. After an alleged violation in early 2026 involving a high alcohol reading on his ankle monitor, though subsequent urine and hair follicle tests returned negative, the court extended the term by two years to seven total, requiring additional outpatient treatment.
The latest filing states that a Smith County community supervision officer has verified his compliance with all current conditions. Mahomes Sr. has completed 160 hours of community service and a 16-week outpatient treatment program at Cenikor, a nonprofit focused on substance use disorder and behavioral health services. He continues to be monitored by an ankle device. In July 2026, he separately asked the court to replace the monitor after reporting swelling, skin irritation, and tissue damage.
The motion affirms that Mahomes Sr. understands he must submit to urinalysis testing before and after each instance of travel when requested by his supervision officer. The court has not yet ruled on the request, and it remains to be seen whether it is approved. Recently, Mahomes Sr. grabbed much attention with an Instagram post.
Patrick Mahomes’ father honors Cindy Mahomes
Mahomes Sr. posted multiple photos on Instagram of his late mother and Mahomes’ grandmother Cindy. She passed away on September 1, 2021, and it was her fifth death anniversary. The caption read, “Wow. 5years have flew by. I know you’re having a blast up there walking and watching over all of us. Miss you and love you.”
The photos show her with both Mahomes Sr. and his other son Jackson Mahomes. Mahomes has previously said that his grandmother had a big role in his upbringing. She played an important role in both her son’s and grandson’s career.
Patrick Mahomes will now focus on his potential return as the Chiefs take on the Denver Broncos on September 14 at Arrowhead Stadium.
