Arsenal loanee Nwaneri unsung hero in Dortmund's comeback win against Hoffenheim

Arsenal loanee Ethan Nwaneri played a key role as Borussia Dortmund came from two goals down to secure a 3-2 victory over TSG Hoffenheim in a German Bundesliga clash on Saturday, despite the Arsenal loanee failing to get his name on the scoresheet.

On his competitive debut for Dortmund, the Hale End Academy graduate came off the bench to replace the injured Filippo Mane after 31 minutes.

Hoffenheim dominated the contest at the SNP Arena for the first 60 minutes and were rewarded with goals from Leon Avdullahu and Tim Lemperle.

Serhou Guirassy reduced the deficit in the 61st minute with a clever finish over Baumann, while Fabio Silva completed Dortmund's comeback by levelling the scores at 2-2 five minutes later.

With four minutes remaining, Nwaneri burst into the penalty area and drilled a low cross across goal, which Albian Hajdari could only poke into his own net to complete Dortmund's comeback.

The England U21 international of Nigerian descent injected pace and energy into Dortmund's left flank after coming on as a substitute.

Nwaneri joined Dortmund on a deadline-day loan from Arsenal without an option to buy, although the Gunners have the option to recall the 19-year-old in January 2027.

After two matches in the Bundesliga, Dortmund sit second in the standings with six points, level with Freiburg, who have a superior goal difference.
