Despite cashing in on his stunning decision to sell the Los Angeles Lakers, Mark Walter is reportedly unwilling to put his Dodgers franchise on the table also.
According to Kevin Baxter of the Los Angeles Times, Walter is uninterested in selling his MLB club, alongside the Los Angeles Sparks and his other prominent sports investments.
Instead, Walter has expressed openness to surrender his Chelsea stake.
"A source close to Walter not authorized to discuss it publicly told The Times he has an interest in selling Chelsea if the terms are right but insisted there is no desire to sell the Sparks, the PWHL, his investment in professional squash or, more prominently, his stake in the Dodgers," the report indicated.
Mark Walter not open to sell Dodgers ownership stake, others amid willingness on Chelsea
Mark Walter sold the Los Angeles Lakers to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for $12.5 billion, setting a new record for the most expensive sports franchise sale.
As such, his decision to part ways with the Lakers left everyone stunned, as he was just the team's controlling owner for over a year after buying the franchise from the Buss family.
Walter has multiple ties to several sports investments. He has been the Los Angeles Dodgers' team owner since 2012.
He bought a minority stake in the Los Angeles Sparks back in 2014, entered European soccer in 2022 as part of a buying consortium for Chelsea FC, and is the foundational owner and primary financial backer of the Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL), which he launched ahead of its inaugural season in 2023.
It is widely speculated that Walter's decision to sell the Lakers and his openness to letting go of his Chelsea stake are rooted in his business empire facing immense pressure from a federal investigation.
