Matheus Cunha to lead the attack: Predicted 4-2-3-1 Manchester United lineup vs Everton
Seeking back-to-back Premier League wins, Manchester United travel to Hill Dickinson Stadium to face Everton on Sunday afternoon.
Michael Carrick’s side lost 2-0 at promoted Hull City in their opening fixture of the 2026/27 season, but they responded well, beating Ipswich Town 5-2 at Old Trafford last weekend. After falling behind to Leif Davis’ strike, the Red Devils turned it around in style and ran riot against the newly-promoted side.
Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick and claimed an assist to pick up where he left off as the PFA Player of the Year in 2025/26. The Portuguese star will try to inspire his side to another victory on Sunday when Manchester United face Everton, who drew 1-1 with Bournemouth last weekend.
Manchester United Team News
Amad Diallo and Mason Mount are yet to feature this season, although the latter has been involved in training in the last couple of weeks. So, the England midfielder could be back in the squad against Everton, but Matthijs de Ligt is still working his way back to full fitness from a serious hip injury.
Meanwhile, summer signing Carlos Baleba is still recovering from an ankle injury.
Predicted Manchester United lineup vs Everton (4-2-3-1)
Goalkeeper
Senne Lammens made a couple of strong saves against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford, playing a decisive role in his side’s big win. He is a certain starter in goal.
Defence
Lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, Michael Carrick is expected to stick with the back four that started in the win over Ipswich. This means Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw should retain their spots in the Manchester United lineup.
Shaw and Martinez were culpable for Ipswich’s goals, so the duo must be raring to put things right here. Harry Maguire will be key in dealing with the aerial threat of Thierno Barry, who has four goals already this season. Meanwhile, Dalot should continue at right-back.
Midfield
Kobbie Mainoo was excellent in the win over Ipswich, and he is certain to pair up with Youri Tielemans in the middle of the park again in the Manchester United lineup. They will try to take control of the game, recycle possession and create opportunities for the forwards.
Fresh from scoring a hat-trick against Ipswich, Bruno Fernandes will be raring to make a mark against Everton. He will be key in unlocking a well-disciplined Toffees’ defence.
Andrey Santos and Mason Mount could come off the bench to add more energy in midfield.
Attack
Marcus Rashford, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo will form a flexible and potent front three for Man United. Rashford and Mbeumo should operate from wide areas, trying to stretch the Everton defence with their pace, agility and directness.
Cunha will lead the attack, raring to break his duck for the season.
Benjamin Sesko should be an option off the bench if the visitors need a goal in Merseyside.
