Drake Maye Makes Eye-Opening Patriots Receivers Admission image

Drake Maye already led the New England Patriots to a Super Bowl with a receiving group that did not always make life easy for him. The supporting cast surrounding the Patriots quarterback looks considerably different entering the 2026 season, and Maye is not hiding his enthusiasm.
“It’s hard not to be excited,” Maye told reporters during his Saturday press conference.
The Patriots made a massive offseason addition by acquiring A.J. Brown, giving Maye a proven No. 1 receiver capable of changing how defenses approach New England. Romeo Doubs also joined the team, while Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism remain part of the receiving group. New England added rookie tight end Eli Raridon to complement Hunter Henry and retained running backs Rhamondre Stevenson and TreVeyon Henderson.
Maye believes the revamped group can make his job easier.
“You love guys in that room, in our skill position room, that we have that make my job easier and that make me look good,” Maye said, according to Pats Pulpit.
That is an encouraging admission from a quarterback who already produced an MVP-caliber season without a truly dominant collection of weapons.
Patriots Have Given Drake Maye More Answers
Maye completed 72% of his passes for 4,394 yards, 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season. He led the NFL in completion percentage, passer rating and yards per attempt while guiding New England from a four-win team to the Super Bowl.

The Patriots still recognized that their offense needed more help. Brown brings physicality, yards-after-catch ability and a proven history of producing against top cornerbacks. Doubs gives Maye another experienced perimeter option. Douglas can work from the slot, while Henry remains one of the quarterback’s most trusted targets.
The group should make it considerably more difficult for opponents to build a coverage plan around taking away one player. Maye said seeing his receivers consistently make plays during practice has provided “a huge confidence booster.”
“I got the best seat in the house when I throw it to them or watch them run,” Maye said.

What it looks like
The new group will face an immediate test Wednesday against the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle pressured Maye throughout its Super Bowl victory and rarely allowed New England’s offense to find a sustainable rhythm.
Brown’s presence should give the Patriots a way to punish aggressive coverage. Doubs and Douglas should also benefit if Seattle devotes additional attention to New England’s new top receiver. Maye’s development remains the biggest factor in the Patriots’ championship chances. Still, quarterbacks are heavily influenced by the talent surrounding them.
New England just gave its franchise quarterback the most complete collection of weapons he has had in the NFL. His excitement is understandable. The rest of the league may soon discover why.
