Enzo Fernandez controlled the match with complete authority during Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Coventry.
Stepping into the midfield with minimal fuss, he ran the show from deep, dictating the tempo and dictating where the game was played. His range of passing was on full display, constantly breaking Coventry’s lines and launching attacks with effortless precision
Moving into his debut start for Manchester City against Coventry, Fernandez registered a modest 5.01 FotMob rating over 76 minutes of action. Despite the low overall rating, his underlying numbers were clean: he completed 92.8% of his passes (65 out of 70), made two clearances, and won his sole tackle.
Enzo Maresca praises Enzo Fernandez’s display
Enzo Maresca was quick to give his verdict on Enzo Fernandez in his debut for Manchester City, as they won 1-0 against Frank Lampard’s Coventry City side.
He said: “Enzo [Fernandez] was on the bench just because he arrived two days ago. I know how frustrating it has been for Enzo in the last two or three weeks. The idea was to give him some minutes, but at the end he played from the start. I think it was quite good, and [I’m] happy also with this performance.”
It looks like a positive start for Enzo Fernandez in the Manchester City colours, but you can’t help but feel like it will take something special to make people forget about the extortionate fee.
