Liverpool have signed a real gem in Victor Muñoz, who cost the Reds just £34.6m.
When Fabrizio Romano announced that Liverpool had hijacked Newcastle United’s deal for Muñoz, it came as a massive surprise.
Most Liverpool fans had heard very little about the 23-year-old, but we’re all becoming very well acquainted with the high-flying forward now.
While he wasn’t signed to lead the Liverpool attack, he has the potential to grow into the kind of forward that will go down as a genuine bargain.
He scored his first Liverpool goal against Nottingham Forest when Florian Wirtz found his well-timed run into the box at Anfield, but the first touch, turn and shot were truly special.
It’s the type of goals that that will be replayed for years because it’s just so perfect. From the pass to the control to the strike, I have no notes.

Liverpool have a special talent in Muñoz, and his performance against Ipswich Town was another insight into the exciting performances we can expect from him in the future.
Muñoz was superb against Ipswich
I think it’s a matter of time before Muñoz scores a crazy solo goal. His ability to drive forward with the ball at pace has so far proven very effective for getting Liverpool out of a low block.
Against Ipswich, he had a number of mazy runs from various places on the pitch.
The first one was utterly ridiculous. Not only does he have outrageous acceleration, but he’s able to maintain a very high speed over long distances too.
Victor Muñoz has HUGE potential.

In the second half, he received the ball from Jeremy Jacquet on the right wing and burst forward to buy the Reds around 40 yards of ground inside the Ipswich half.

If Muñoz can add consistent end product to his game, he may well be the kind of signing Liverpool have become famous for. The Reds have been spending a lot more on individual signings than we have ever seen, but £30m-odd fees on the likes of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane is how they returned to the European elite.
Andoni Iraola has proven to be an elite coach in terms of developing young talents, and at 23, there is plenty of time for Muñoz to blossom into a top forward, but he will need to score and assist more than he has managed so far in his career.
At Liverpool, the Spanish winger already has one assist, not to mention the penalty he won on his debut against Nottingham Forest.
If Muñoz can manage 15 goals and assists in his first season, I would consider that a success given that Alexander Isak, Bradley Barcola and Cody Gakpo will carry the team’s attacking contributions.
Hugo Ekitike is also set to return to training later this year, and he should be able to contribute around ten goals or assists on his return if there are no complications with his recovery.
