Jack Grealish has opened up on his relationship with David Moyes after his deadline day loan switch to Everton from Manchester City. At the start of last season, Pep Guardiola made the decision to loan Grealish to Everton. However, the spell was cut short in January when the former Aston Villa man picked up an injury.
Grealish returned to Manchester and was on stage at Co-op Live as Guardiola said farewell to the club. The injury picked up at the start of the year forced Grealish to miss the pre-season tour of Asia in August. However, he did play the second half of the Community Shield and came on for a brief cameo against Bournemouth a week later.
The 30-year-old was missing from the travelling squad for the next game against Crystal Palace. This all but confirmed he would leave before the summer window closed, and so it proved as Grealish secured a return to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the clash with Manchester United on Sunday, Grealish opened up on the importance of having a good relationship with Everton head coach Moyes. "I get on really well with him," he said when asked about Moyes. "He’d probably tell you, sometimes he’d probably say: ‘Jack’s a nightmare,’ but we have this really good connection.
"And like I was saying to you off camera, when I get on really well with a manager, it makes you want to do more for them. It makes you want to give everything for them, play well and succeed for them. And that’s what I want to do. I know a lot of the players are like that with him here.
"When I look back to managers that I’ve played my best football under, I always had a special connection with them as well. Three of my managers, Tim Sherwood, Steve Bruce and Dean Smith, I always speak to all of them now on text. I played such good football under all of them and I feel like that with the manager here as well."
Grealish has a good relationship with Enzo Maresca after his first spell in Manchester as Guardiola's assistant. Speaking in his first press conference as City head coach in July, the Italian said: "Jack, at the moment, is here. He is a Man City player. I always said the same in any club I join. If there are players that belong to the club, it's my duty to try to coach them.
"Jack, at the moment, he's here. I have a good relationship with Jack since I left also, we keep in touch. And the reason why is because he has a big heart, and he's a very good guy. So this is the reason why."
