Curtis Jones has opened up about his decision to leave Liverpool for Inter Milan this summer, with the Scouser left feeling like he doesn’t have to “prove anybody wrong.”
The Toxteth-born midfielder was linked to Inter in January, and after months of speculation, a £30 million deal was agreed for the academy graduate to move to Italy.
Liverpool did not replace Jones in the transfer window, with Trey Nyoni expected to take on the midfield minutes left available by the 25-year-old’s exit.
Jones has since made two appearances off the bench since his transfer was formalised, and spoke to the press after Inter’s dramatic 3-2 win over Napoli on Saturday.
Speaking to CBS Sports, Jones explained that he “feels at home” and has been “allowed” to be himself, hinting that it was not quite the case at Liverpool.
"Since the first day, the lads have been unbelievable… I can just be myself."

“I just feel at home with the lads,” he said. “Since the first day, they’ve been unbelievable, and so I can just be myself.
“Of course I’ve got a point to prove, but I know that if I’m just myself, the lads will like me, the staff and the fans as well.
“I’ve been allowed to just go and be me and just enjoy the game and not feeling like I’ve got to prove anybody wrong.”
Curtis Jones on what convinced him to join Inter Milan
As for what convinced him to make the move to Milan, he told DAZN of manager Cristian Chivu, via Football Italia: “There’s a reason I came here: the phone calls we had, how the team plays, his tactical ideas, and how he works every single day.
“It’s the small things he says, things that might seem minor but end up having a massive impact. Plus, he has immense experience and played at the highest level himself.
“He’s managed the squad brilliantly. He’s ‘one of us’, and to me, that’s fundamental. He’s passionate and deeply loves this game, just like I do.
“That’s why he’s leading a club like this, and he’s doing a fantastic job.”
After leaving his boyhood club, Jones penned in a social media message: “Thank you to the fans that stuck by me and always supported me. I will always be one of you.”
