**Ainsley Maitland-Niles scored a stunning equaliser six minutes into added time as [Everton](https://readeverton.com/) somehow rescued a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the Hill Dickinson.**
And what a way for the Deadline Day signing to introduce himself.
Everton twice fell behind, first to Bryan Mbeumo and then Benjamin Šeško, with Tyrique George scoring a cracker of his own in between. But Maitland-Niles saved the best until last.
David Moyes stuck with the side that drew at Bournemouth, meaning Jack Grealish and Maitland-Niles both started on the bench.
United almost scored early on when Bruno Fernandes struck the bar, while Everton worked hard without giving Senne Lammens a great deal to worry about. It was goalless at the break. Not for long.
Within two minutes of the restart, Kobbie Mainoo found Mbeumo and the United forward curled a fine finish beyond Jordan Pickford.
Everton were struggling for inspiration. Brennan Johnson saw an effort deflected wide and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall had a couple of openings, but United looked relatively comfortable. Then came Grealish.
He replaced Johnson midway through the half and immediately gave Everton a little more composure. Moyes was then forced to shuffle his pack again.
Merlin Röhl made way for Hayden Hackney, with James Garner moving to right-back, only for Garner to go down moments later. On came Maitland-Niles for his debut. Not exactly Plan A.
With seven minutes remaining, Everton finally found something. Hackney fed George on the right, and the youngster absolutely leathered the ball into the roof of the net from a tight angle. His first Everton goal.
And some way to get it. The Hill Dickinson erupted. Five minutes later, it went quiet again.
Fernandes found Shaw on the overlap and his cross was met by Šeško, whose header beat Pickford despite the Everton goalkeeper getting a hand to it.
That looked to be that. But Everton kept going.
George went close again, Hackney blazed over after Grealish had teed him up and Dewsbury-Hall won one final corner.
United cleared it. But only as far as Maitland-Niles. From around 30 yards, the debutant bent an absolute beauty into the top corner.
**2-2. Bedlam.**
Moyes won’t have enjoyed everything he saw. Everton lacked quality for long spells, and both United goals were avoidable.
But there was no shortage of character. Twice behind. Twice they found a way back. George got his first Everton goal, and Maitland-Niles introduced himself with one nobody inside the Hill Dickinson will forget in a hurry.
