David Moyes looked back on a 2-2 draw for Everton against Manchester United.
The Toffees have made an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, beating Crystal Palace 2-0 before drawing 1-1 with Bournemouth. A late James Tarkowski equaliser earned the point at the Vitality Stadium, and it was the same story from this encounter at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
‘Overall, we deserved to get that second goal’
Bryan Mbeumo made the hosts pay for a big Thierno Barry miss, scoring at the start of the second half. The hosts battled hard to compete, and eventually, Tyrique George gave them the bit of quality needed in the final action as he hammered a strike beyond Senne Lammens from the right side.
Benjamin Sesko scored off the bench for the second successive season, putting the Red Devils into the lead. But Ainsley Maitland-Niles clapped back with a sweet strike from distance to level again.
Moyes praises a depleted squad
After the debacle of deadline day, the dedication of this depleted squad put a smile on Moyes’ face.
“Absolutely. They did, and I think that they will [the team working hard due to being a small squad].
“We brought Jack Grealish on, and Jack has had a few minutes since the injury. Ainsley Maitland-Niles is getting minutes, but no real time to introduce him to what we are doing and how we hope he will play in his position. But overall, just the effort, Hayden Hackey came on and made a big effort.
“So, I think there was a lot of positives to take from the game. The disappointing thing for me is I think we had enough chances, and we should have been clinical, and you know, crossed it better, finished better, but as well as that, Manchester United had chances as well and played very well.
“We opened up a bit at the end as well, and Manchester United were countering. We had a couple of good defensive moments to stop them from making it 3, but overall, we deserved to get that second goal, and it was an unbelievable goal as well.
The verdict on Tyrique George
“It’s the forward players who are the ones who will get the most opportunities to create and score so that’s why I’m a bit disappointed that we didn’t do it a bit better in the first half. I thought we had moments where we could have tried to capitalise on it and we didn’t, but in the end, Tyrique scored a very good goal as well. He played very well on the left, and when he also went out to the right.
“Let’s hope that he picks it up, he’s still a young boy learning his trade in the Premier League .”
