Nico O’Reilly was slated to start in Manchester City’s 1-0 win over Coventry City yesterday, but had to be withdrawn at the last moment, during warm-ups. Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca gave the following explanation in his post match press conference:
“O’Reilly felt something in his back, not serious. Enzo (Fernandez) came in – his first appearance in front of the home fans was ideal.”

Yes, Enzo Fernandez, Man City’s £125m summer transfer window deadline day signing, made his first start in a City shirt, albeit not by design. Getting back to O’Reilly, he is likely a doubt for Tuesday night’s UEFA Champions League opener at FC Porto.
City supporters might also be a bit concerned about Iliman Ndiaye, the late window signing from Everton. He was forced off in the 87′ of the victory over the newly promoted side, but he claimed that it was only due to a cramp.
So if that is all it is, then Ndiaye should be cleared for selection in the continental competition.
One player who definitely won’t be cleared is Jeremy Doku. The timeline for his return, from a calf injury, has been officially delayed.
