Everton head coach David Moyes felt that Manchester United played their best football of the season so far against Everton on Sunday.
After a goalless first half, United hit the front after half-time. Bryan Mbeumo received the ball on the right, cut inside and curled the ball into the far corner.
After the goal, United struggled to fashion any chances of note and were punished. Tyrique George was afforded a yard of space on the right-hand side of the box before firing the ball into the roof of the net to make it 1-1.
United needed to regroup and looked to have won it in the 88th minute when Luke Shaw's fine cross picked out substitute Benjamin Sesko to head home. However, they could not hold on as with the last chance of the game, Ainsley Maitland-Niles curled home a superb effort to ensure the points were shared.
Speaking to Sky Sports post-match, Moyes said: "For periods we played well. I thought Man United played better than they have done in their other games.
"The first goal we concede is shabby. But I thought if anyone was going to go on and win the game after we equalises it would be us.
"I set out to win. For us, to give the crowd moments, it was a big moment. But I wanted to win and I thought we were capable of winning. I need to win my home games.
"You don't plan as a manager to equalise in the last minute. But I thought the boys did amazing to keep running. We did well to ride their pressure and we got the great finish to end."
United have one win, one draw and one defeat to start the season. In his post-match press conference, Michael Carrick was asked why the Reds had not hit the heights of last season yet, to which he responded: "We haven't started the season that bad, to be honest."
United must now dust themselves down and prepare for their return to the Champions League on Thursday night. They will host Sabah FK in midweek before the Manchester derby on Sunday at Old Trafford.
