Jayden Danns remaining at Liverpool following the transfer window preserves the club’s 134-year record of having a local-born player in the squad.
Liverpool have proudly had a local player in their first-team squad since the club was formed in 1892.
When Curtis Jones departed for Inter Milan, fears grew that the Reds could face a season without a single Scouser in the senior squad for the first time in their history.
However, Danns staying at Liverpool after links to a loan move ensures that unbroken streak can remain intact.
While it can certainly be argued that he is not an established first-team player, the Liverpool-born striker could yet prove an option for Andoni Iraola after returning to fitness.

A frustrating hamstring issue in pre-season denied the striker a chance to train with the senior side, but his U21s return opens the door to impress in the coming weeks and months.
Alexander Isak will need support in the continued absence of Hugo Ekitike, which Danns could provide as the schedule starts to see the Reds play every midweek and weekend.
He forms part of a youthful wider first-team squad along with the likes of Lewis Koumas, James McConnell and Luke Chambers.
As for why Koumas is not the player keeping the run alive despite widely being considered a Scouser, he was born in Chester and thus is not a local-born player.

It is important for Liverpool to retain their local roots in the senior setup, and Iraola is uniquely equipped to appreciate the importance of a Scouse presence.
The 44-year-old was born in the Basque Country of Spain and rose up the ranks at Athletic Club, establishing himself as a legend for a club that has a strict policy on its playing squad.
Since 1911, Athletic Club have exclusively fielded players born or raised in the Basque Country, preserving an identity and its connection to the local community that English clubs will feel has been lost following relentless commercialisation.
While Jones ended up leaving his boyhood club, Iraola initially recognised his importance beyond his skill set, saying: “It’s very important that he’s Scouse, that he’s from here.”
Liverpool do not have the team of Scousers that Jurgen Klopp once wished for, but as long as the likes of Danns are given an opportunity, the 134-year Scouse presence will continue.
