NBA legend Julius Erving opened up about why he left LeBron James off his all-time players list during an interview with NBA insider Brandon "Scoop B" Robinson.
Erving revealed a simple reason why LeBron still isn't on his list, stating that it is difficult to include players who have yet to finish their careers on an all-time team.
"I usually talk about retired players being part of all-time teams, not current players. LeBron is not retired yet, so it's hard to put him in his position until his career is over," Erving told Robinson.
Erving's controversial Top 10 list
Back in 2023, Erving revealed his all-time players list, which drew backlash from NBA fans after he left off some of basketball's biggest names, such as LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Kobe Bryant.
He held the same stance then as he does now, adhering to a strict rule against including active players.
His selection included Bill Russell, Wilt Chamberlain, Oscar Robertson, Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Tim Duncan, and Karl Malone, with Tiny Archibald also mentioned as a player in consideration for his top 10.
Erving talks LeBron joining 76ers
The 76ers legend also talked about LeBron James joining Philadelphia this offseason.
Erving believes this team could be very exciting and capable of winning championships, but stressed that they must prove it on the court.
"As for what's going to happen in Philly, it's going to be very exciting for the fans of Philadelphia and for LeBron. That particular team can set some records and win some championships, but they have to do it on the court, not with lip service," Erving said.
