Man Utd are aiming to revive their move for Leicester City midfielder Louis Page in the New Year, according to The Athletic reporter Laurie Whitwell.
The journalist claims that the Red Devils had already seen off competition from Arsenal, but they were unable to complete a deal before the transfer window closed after the Foxes increased their asking price:
“They did try to sign another midfielder on deadline [day]. United reopened talks for Louis Page, the 18-year-old at Leicester City, and advanced to a stage when a deal looked possible.”
“The price rose sharply to more than £10m, which United entertained, before an impasse occurred over Leicester’s valuation, thought to be £12m plus £3m.”
“Page was named by Russell Martin in Leicester’s starting line-up for the League One visit by Plymouth Argyle, and that was the end of the matter.”
“Page played well, and United are expected to revisit the situation. He wanted to join United, having turned down Arsenal in the summer.”
What do Man Utd fans need to know about the player?
The 18-year-old came through the ranks of Leicester, and he is an England youth international, having played for the Three Lions at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 level.
Page made his senior club debut against Huddersfield Town in the first round of the Carabao Cup in August last year. He has gone on to make 26 appearances in total for the Foxes’ first team.
The midfielder has yet to get on the scoresheet, but he has contributed 2 assists – including one against Plymouth Argyle during a 2-0 win on Tuesday night.

Page may have to go out on loan if he does join in January
Even if the Red Devils do end up paying upwards of £15m for the teenager, it is hard to see him getting much game time in central midfield due to the wealth of options available to manager Michael Carrick.
Considering Page has already played a lot of senior football, sending him down to the Under 21s would not be beneficial to his development.
For that reason, a loan spell away from Old Trafford would be the most likely outcome if United do manage to seal his signature.
