**Liverpool secured their first Premier League win under Andoni Iraola as they beat Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road.**
Alexander Isak was the star of the show for the Reds as he scored a brilliant first-half brace to spearhead his team to a deserved win.
The Swedish international only scored three Premier League goals last season after his record-breaking transfer to Anfield as he struggled with poor form and injuries.
He has already matched that tally this season, having also scored against Nottingham Forest last week.
And now, Troy Deeney believes the Liverpool striker will be up there as one of the contenders to win the Premier League Golden Boot.
Writing in his column for the BBC, Deeney sent a message to Isak’s doubters, doubling down on the prediction he made about him earlier in the season.
“The guy they keep telling you isn’t good,” wrote Deeney.
“They say last year he wasn’t good, even though he had two injuries, one being a broken leg.
“This season, he doesn’t score in one game against Newcastle and, ‘oh, he’s not good enough, he’s bottled it’. Just remember, someone tipped him for the Golden Boot.”
Isak has been fit for a prolonged period now and also fared quite well at the 2026 FIFA World Cup for Sweden.
If he’s fit and firing for the whole season, there is no reason why we won’t compete for the Premier League Golden Boot, although a certain Erling Haaland will have a thing or two to say.
