**Liverpool’s attack came under the microscope this summer as they had to deal with the small matter of Mohamed Salah leaving.**
The Egyptian called time on his legendary Anfield career and sealed a free transfer to Trabzonspor as the Reds were left with the difficult task of attempting to replace him.
Bradley Barcola and Victor Munoz arrived at the club during the summer transfer window, but at one point, it looked like a few players could leave as well.
Federico Chiesa and Cody Gakpo were linked with departures, with the latter, in particular, subject of strong interest from Manchester City.
Both players remained at the club, but it appears as if Chiesa could be on his way out of the club in January.
“I’m getting signs right now that Federico Chiesa is returning to Italy, and it could be the right time,” said journalist Emanuele Cammaroto via [Caught Offside](https://www.caughtoffside.com/2026/09/07/journo-tips-liverpool-player-for-january-exit/).
“He wants to find some playing time, in January, his team might offer him to some Italian clubs, including Napoli.”
Chiesa hasn’t featured in the Premier League this season under Andoni Iraola and has also been left out of Liverpool’s UEFA Champions League squad for the group phase.
The writing is on the wall for the Italian, so the best solution for all parties involved could be a permanent departure in January, or at the latest by next summer.
