Liverpool transfer news as defender will be allowed to leave in January

Liverpool made a handful of changes to their squad during the summer transfer window under Andoni Iraola.

In defence, the Reds made up for Ibrahima Konate’s departure with the signing of Jeremy Jacquet, while Ronald Araujo was signed on loan from Barcelona to cover for injuries to Joe Gomez and Giovanni Leoni.

Both players are on the comeback trail and are expected to feature within the next month or so, putting Liverpool in a much better position than was the case in August.

And if all their first-team options are fit and firing, Andoni Iraola could finally sanction Luke Chambers’ exit in January.

Luke Chambers to leave Liverpool

The young defender featured regularly during the first part of pre-season as a lot of senior players were unavailable at the time.

The Reds opted to keep Chambers in their squad due to their injury woes at the back, but now, with players on the verge of returning, it looks like he is set to leave.

Alan Nixon reports that Celtic are looking to snap him up, with his contract at Liverpool set to expire next summer.

Not sure on the general consensus but Luke Chambers has had a really good half there.

It’s not surprising given his 1200+ Championship minutes. Best performance in a Liverpool shirt.

“Liverpool will let left-back Luke Chambers go on loan in January – with Celtic among his admirers,” wrote Nixon via Celtic Shorts.

“The Scottish giants are keen on Chambers as a long-term project. He is out of contract at the end of the season.”

Chambers deserves to play regularly and it doesn’t appear as if he has a long-term future at Liverpool. So if Celtic – or any of his other suitors – make a move for him in January, it looks like the Reds will sanction his departure.
