Hansi Flick has added another remarkable chapter to his Barcelona reign, surpassing Johan Cruyff to become the manager who has spent the most matchdays at the top of La Liga in the club’s history.
As such, the German manager reached 60 matchdays at the summit after Barcelona’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Valencia.
It is another landmark for a manager whose spell in Catalonia has been defined by consistency, silverware and an increasingly dominant presence in the Spanish top flight.
Notably, Flick has reached the milestone after just 80 matchdays in charge, while Cruyff needed 300 matches to spend 59 matchdays at the top.
Flick’s extraordinary league consistency
Barcelona’s current position is the latest evidence of Flick’s remarkable league record.

Across his first season, he guided the Blaugrana to the top of the table on 30 of the 38 matchdays, meaning his side occupied first place for 79% of the campaign.
His second season was slightly less dominant, but still impressive. Barcelona led La Liga on 26 occasions during the 2025/26 campaign, giving Flick another 68% of matchdays at the summit.
This season, however, the German has taken that consistency to another level. Barcelona have started with four straight victories, meaning Flick has been top for every matchday so far.
Across his first two seasons and the opening four matchdays of the current campaign, Barcelona have therefore spent 75% of their time at the top of La Liga under Flick.

The record is particularly significant because of the names Flick has overtaken.

Cruyff had previously held the benchmark with 59 matchdays at the summit, while Pep Guardiola also enjoyed a hugely successful period in charge.
Guardiola led Barcelona at the top of La Liga for 58% of his league matches between 2008 and 2012, delivering three league titles in four seasons.
Cruyff remains the club’s record holder for league titles, winning four consecutive championships between 1990 and 1994.
Flick, meanwhile, has already added two La Liga titles to Barcelona’s trophy haul, taking the club to 29 league championships.
