**Ainsley Maitland-Niles is still to discover his role at Everton under David Moyes.**
Maitland-Niles enjoyed a flying start to life at Hill Dickinson Stadium with a dramatic long-range equaliser at the end of Sunday’s [2-2 draw with Manchester United](https://www.clickliverpool.com/sport/everton-fc/67987-everton-2-2-man-utd-three-talking-points-ainsley-maitland-niles-tyrique-george-james-garner/).
The 29-year-old arrived on deadline day in a £4 million move from Lyon which brought the Blues’ lengthy search for an established right-back option to an end.
But Maitland-Niles, who was first in line for a move to Merseyside in 2021, admits he still needs to hold talks with Moyes about his tactical role within the team.
He said: “We still need to sit down and discuss a few things which he said to me because it’s so new with me being here and why I didn’t start today.
“So I need to go through a few things with the manager, talk and sit down and see how he views my playing style and how I fit into the team.
“He didn’t need to \[sell the club\]. It speaks for itself, it’s Everton Football Club, it’s massive.
“It’s a proud moment for me to be able to sign here and for my family to be at Everton. My son and my wife were here today, so it was a lovely moment for them.”
Reflecting on his 94th-minute strike against the Red Devils, the former Arsenal and Roma man believes the goal is among his personal career highlights to date.
“It’s up there for sure,” added Maitland-Niles.
“Top one, if not top two emotionally, with the circumstances and what it is, it means a lot.
“It opened up. I was there, I just ran into it and the pace was already on the ball, so it was okay.
“I just had to get a clean connection and I managed to do that.”
