Liverpool were first linked with a move to sign Dani Carvajal at the weekend when Joleon Lescot said the Reds could sign him on a Bosman transfer.
Speaking on TNT Sports, former Man City Lescott hinted that Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing Carvajal as free agent.
Lescott said: “I think there’s talk of Liverpool – Carvajal – right back. So yeah, I would say Liverpool as well.”
Reporting for TEAMtalk, Graeme Bailey reports that Liverpool and Manchester City have been offered Carvajal by intermediaries to explore a free-agent move, while Fulham have also been approached.

Bailey reports: “Carvajal has held talks with numerous clubs in Spain since becoming available, while there has also been interest from MLS, the Saudi Pro League and elsewhere in Europe.
“We can confirm that Fulham have a potential interest in Carvajal and there is a prospect of him moving to Craven Cottage.
“A move to Fulham could also see Carvajal reunited with former Real Madrid boss Alvaro Arbeloa, who is now at the west London club and knows the defender well from their time together in Madrid. However, Fulham are not the only Premier League club to have been presented with the opportunity.
“Intermediaries have also offered Carvajal to Liverpool and Manchester City, with both clubs potentially having room for additional full-back cover.
“The availability of a player with Carvajal’s experience makes him an interesting proposition for clubs looking to add depth without having to pay a transfer fee.
“Liverpool and Manchester City are weighing up a Carvajal offer. Neither club has been identified as having made a firm commitment to a deal at this stage, but the fact that Carvajal has been offered to both demonstrates the level of interest in securing his services.”
Signing Carvajal on a free transfer is a risk worth taking
Given that Liverpool have already had to use Ronald Araujo at right-back, it would be advisable to sign a natural right-back, even if Carvajal is 34.
The Spaniard is still a good player, and better than Jeremie Frimpong.
Carvajal was reportedly earning €10.4 m/year at Madrid before his contract expired in July, which is an acceptable amount to pay the six-time Champions League winner.
That said, if this were to happen, it should be for one year. Two years max.
